April Newsletter 2023

April 2023 Newsletter

Happy Spring LAVMC Members! March’s dinner was prepared and served by Ray Williams and his family. The meal was corned beef sandwiches (I believe he went above and beyond and corned the beef himself). I might have overindulged, but it was definitely worth it. Our general membership meeting is on Thursday, April 20th. The Bar opens at 5:30 and dinner is served at 6:15. The meeting will start at 7pm sharp. April’s dinner will be prepared by Matthias, Joe, and our trusty bar manager, Zach. They might be serving up some tri-tip sandos - but they are going to keep the final decision a surprise. I do remember Zach’s pork loin dinner from last year - it was delicious. I doubt this upcoming dinner will be any different. We have volunteers for post-dinner cleanup this month - thank you Jim McCullar and Richard Pata! We are still looking for volunteers to help clean up after dinner and eat for free for the following months: June, September, October & November. If you want to volunteer let Kylin (secretary@lavmc.org) know! Spring Fling is coming up fast, it is on April 22nd. Doors open at 5:30pm. If you haven’t gotten your reverse draw ticket yet, get on it! Tickets are $100 and enter you in the reverse drawing and include two dinner tickets. We have sold a lot of tickets and have a lot of great donations! Psst, remember - the more tickets sold - the bigger the cash prize if you win! We are still accepting donations (don’t forget about baked goods for the dessert auction!) and are still looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen, help serve, and help clean-up after dinner. It can’t happen without the help of our wonderful members! We have one more bingo fundraiser to get Old Days “Back on Bell.” We are at $14,920 raised so far through March! Let’s keep up the momentum and make it happen! Please let Shirley (rentals@lavmc.org) know if you are interested in donating towards this cause and sponsoring $250 or more. The donation is tax deductible and as a thank you for your support we will provide you 3 bingo tickets or 2 dinner/dance tickets. We will also shout you out at the future Bingos and in the Old Days book. If you donate $300 or more you will get the above and some Old Days swag! The next ‘Back on Bell’ bingo is on June 23rd, mark your calendars! Big thank you to Shirley for heading this venture up and to all of you for supporting the cause! Our Old Days theme for 2023 is ‘Red, White, and ‘Country’. Start brainstorming parade floats! We would love to have families enter in this years parade like the old days (bah dum tss)! Our next Old Days planning meeting is Monday, April 17th, at 6:30 at the club. In order to have Old Days on Bell Street we will need to meet fundraising goals and have plenty of volunteers. We need as many helping hands as we can get! Lastly, Zach will not be serving you at the bar if you haven’t yet paid your membership dues. Payment is accepted via check, cash, or Venmo. Please be sure to state clearly in a check memo or on Venmo what the payment is regarding by notating “2023 Membership Fee” and any other details we may need to know.

Community & Donation Updates

The $1,500 donation to the Santa Maria Valley Historical Society is already making an impact! This donation was used to purchase a map sized scanner. Debra Vidro has been hard at work and apparently getting some unplanned cardio while using the scanner to scan the large maps! We are grateful to her for stepping up!

You can visit the museum Tuesday through Saturday 11am to 4pm. The museum is located at 616 S Broadway, Santa Maria, CA 93454.

Since last September we have donated $18,950 to various organizations within our community.

Member Shout Out!

We wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to the Cooper crew! They donated their time on a Sunday morning to split all the wood we had stored for the BBQ pits. It takes a team to keep the club up and running and we are grateful for all that continue to donate their time! If you have a way you think you can contribute to the efforts of the club that we haven’t thought to ask for, let us know!
