October Newsletter

Dear LAVMC Members

Turkey dinner hosted by the Grange last month was absolutely delicious! I’m sorry if you missed out on the smoked farm-raised turkey! But your loss meant plates full of seconds for the rest of us! With that said, we still need an October dinner host. If you would like to volunteer, please text, or call Kristy at 805-610-3360.

Music in the Park is happening for the last time this year on Friday, October 14th in Ferrini Park. The Fossils will be playing from 7pm to 10pm. Bring your lawn chairs, dinner, drinks, etc., and let’s enjoy one of the best party bands on the Central Coast. They were super fun during Old Days, and we are looking forward to having them back!

Our Thursday, October 20th meeting, the Bar opens at 5:30, dinner is served at 6:15, and the meeting begins at 7 sharp. The meeting WILL be held at the club. We thought we would have to be alcohol-free for the month of October due to our alcohol licensing endeavor, but things have changed. We will go more in-depth at the general membership meeting as to why. The most important detail is the meeting will be at the club as usual.

The election of our board is happening this month! Plan to attend and vote!

The 76th annual Los Alamos Old Days is officially in the books. There were three other large events happening the same weekend in the Valley, Arroyo Grande, and Paso Robles. We struggled a bit to compete but in general, the weekend was successful. It is becoming apparent that the cost and liability restrictions are putting a damper on the way we used to do things. Insurance is much more expensive and limiting, now compared to past years. Our volunteer participation was very low this year. Only six people showed up at the club cleanup day pre–Old Days and five of them were board members. Due to the low turnout, a cleaning crew had to be hired which added to our expenses for the weekend. Planning has already begun for Old Days 2023. Please consider volunteering for the planning committee. Volunteers for the actual weekend were abundant and we appreciate all of you! Old Days would not happen without our club members donating their time and skills.

v Recently, for the second time in a month - the club was unable to provide dumpster space for our renters due to someone using it without permission. We would like to remind everyone that the dumpster at the club is for the club's use only. We are booked every weekend and it takes all the room in the dumpster to accommodate our tenants.

v The Seniors (adult) beverage raffle is being postponed until our December Christmas dinner. Please consider donating to a great cause. All donations can be delivered to the bar (Zach Perron) between now and then.

v Bingo!! There is a bingo Friday, October 21st benefiting our local Senior Center. They are raising funds for much needed repairs. They are accepting donations for game sponsors and raffle items. For more information, and tickets, you can contact Kathy 805-344-1931. Help support a great cause and have fun doing it!

v The Christmas Tree will be decorated on November 19th beginning at 9am in Ferrini Park. Decorating help is needed. The tree lighting will occur on December 3rd. More details to come.
