Dear LAVMC Members,

Hello to all our new members! We are happy to have you join us!

This month’s dinner meeting is being hosted by Samantha and Brandon

Bakke. I hear it is a taco bar, so you don’t want to miss it! Our April 21 dinner

chefs were Rob Cooper and Raymond Williams. It was amazing and thank you!

Jared Banks, the principal of Olga Reed Elementary School joined us at our

last meeting. He shared a fantastic slideshow of the last Catalina trip the kids

attended with the help of our donation. This Catalina trip is one we have been

helping to sponsor for many years. Seeing all the wonderful activities the children

were able to participate in and experience was heartwarming and made us all

smile. We want to say an extra thank you to Mr. Banks for attending the meeting

and sharing their experience with us.

Our Thursday, May 19 th meeting, the Bar opens at 5:30, dinner served at

6:15, and meeting begins at 7 sharp. Hope to see you there.

Just an FYI - The club is the official Red Cross Evacuation Center for Los

Alamos.

The next Los Alamos History committee meeting is scheduled for 4/12 at

6:30. The first meetings focused on gathering history and plaque design. If you

have an interest in local history or have local history you can share, then please

attend. We could use your help!

Several great ideas have been suggested for how to increase our

membership. Keep an eye out for some new incentives and new friends joining

us! Referring a friend could win you a free drink card! The committee chairperson

is Zach Perron if you have any questions or would like to participate.

The third Old Days Planning Committee meeting was held May 9th. We are

still in need of a committee chair to handle Old Days paperwork. County permits,

etc. All the events for the weekend and preplanning needs have been divided up

to ease the responsibilities. Each committee chairperson will be assigned plenty

of helpers. A new event is being added this year. A history tour of Los Alamos

and some of the main attractions and older buildings will be included in a guided

tour. There are two times available. Saturday at noon and Sunday at Noon. More

information will follow as it becomes available. The theme for this year’s event is

Not our first rodeo and we are celebrating the 76 th year of Old Days

celebrations.

The next Old Days planning meeting will be held June 6th at 6 p.m. at the

club. If you can help in any way, please join us in June. We would appreciate all

the help we can get!

Our bar has new set hours from 5:30 to 11 for club events. You may also

now pay with a credit card when making purchases! Drink cards are available for

$60.00 but, you could win a free one if you refer a friend and they become a

member.

May 6 was our most recent Bingo event, and it was a packed house (club).

Funds raised are being shared between our Bob Berkemeir Building Fund and

the FCC Lompoc Employees Club. A full report will be given at the membership

meeting this month.

Tuesday May 10 the organizers of the Santa Barbara County Broadband

Strategic Plan held a project public information meeting at the club. The county is

working with several organizations and city governments to better understand

and identify the broadband infrastructure needs in our area. The plan will be

completed at the end of 2022 and then the alliance will seek funding

opportunities for projects to improve the internet access. If you are able to take

the survey and speed test located at this address www.SBCAG.org/broadband -

please do so. The data they gather will aid in identifying the area’s most in need.

If you know someone who does not have internet or access to equipment to take

this survey, then they can call 805-961-8902 to report why.

Spring Fling is coming up fast and if it’s not on your calendar yet, write this

down! May 21 is the big day! There will be a live and silent auction. $100.00

reversal raffle tickets include one dinner. Dinner only tickets are $20.00. Reverse

draw tickets have been selling fast and we have surpassed last year’s sales.

Contact Kim at 805-350-1815 if you can donate or help. This is one of our

biggest fundraisers of the year and we hope to see you there!
