Dear LAVMC Members, February’s dinner was prepared and served by Matthias Sanchez. I was not able to try it myself, but I heard it was amazing. He made an Argentinian Asado Tri-tip with a chimichurri side dressing to share some of his culture with us. What a treat!
Our general membership meeting is on Thursday, February 16th. The Bar opens at 5:30 and dinner is served at 6:15. The meeting will start at 7pm sharp. March’s dinner will be prepared by Ray Williams and I think we all know that will be delicious. He will be serving up corned beef sandwiches. Yum! We are looking for one more volunteer to help clean up after dinner - if you do volunteer, your dinner is on us! All future months are looking for 2 members to eat for free and volunteer to help clean up after dinner. If you want to volunteer let Kylin (secretary@lavmc.org) know!
Don't forget to bring beer and wine to our general meeting for the Back on Bell bingo beverage raffle! It’s a great way to contribute to getting Old Days ‘Back on Bell’! We are at $8,873 raised so far through February! Let’s keep up the momentum and make it happen! Our next ‘Cook Your Own’ is March 17th - there is a choice of Steak, Chicken, Fish, or Corned Beef and sides. Kiddos under 10 will get a free hotdog meal. Live music from 7 to 10pm provided by Bud Kristofferson. You can get your pre-sale tickets through March 15th. Pre-sale dinners will be served from 6-7pm. Thank you to those of you who came to the Vitalant blood drive at the Men’s Club on February 26th! We didn’t have as good of a turnout as we would have hoped. If you have any ideas on how we can make it easier for people to come donate, let us know!
As a reminder, we are fundraising to get Old Days Back on Bell by hosting a series of Bingos and we are still accepting sponsors. Please let Shirley (rentals@lavmc.org) know if you are interested in donating towards this cause and sponsoring $250 or more. The donation is tax deductible and as a thank you for your support we will provide you 3 bingo tickets or 2 dinner/dance tickets. We will also shout you out at the future Bingos and in the Old Days book. If you donate $300 or more, you will get the above and some Old Days swag! The next ‘Back on Bell’ bingo is on March 31st. Presale tickets are $25 and include a sammy box with a tri-tip sandwich and the Ray William’s famous rice. Tickets at the door are $25 and sammy boxes can be purchased at the bingo for $15. The current top five themes are: ‘Back on Bell’, ‘Join the Stampede’, ‘Revel on Bell’, ‘Cowpokes & Cottonwoods’, and ‘Red, White, and ‘Country’. Our next Old Days planning meeting is March 20th at 6pm. In order to have Old Days on Bell Street we will need to meet fundraising goals and have plenty of volunteers. We need as many helping hands as we can get!
Spring Fling is coming up fast! The next planning meeting is April 3rd at 7pm in the bar. Please enter through the gate to the right of the door as to not disturb the Zumba class. Spring Fling is on April 22nd. Kim is still looking for donations for the dessert, live & silent auction. She is also looking for volunteers to help the day of. She will be bringing a sign-up list to the March general membership meeting. Please contact Kim (ranchorelaxo11@gmail.com or 805-350-1815) to volunteer, donate, or buy your reverse draw ticket (which includes 2 dinners).
The picnic tables are getting replaced and they look fabulous. We are planning a staining party before Spring Fling. If that’s something you would be interested in helping with or that you have experience with, let us know!
We wanted to take a moment to thank Gina Sterling (Kopcrak) for sharing her talents with us and managing our Old Days social media presence and club website over the last couple of years. She did a great job, and we are so grateful for it!
Lastly, Zach will not be serving you at the bar if you haven’t yet paid your membership dues. Payment is accepted via check, cash, or Venmo. Please be sure to state clearly in a check memo or on Venmo what the payment is regarding by notating “2023 Membership Fee” and any other details we may need to know.
Community & Donation Updates The general membership voted to donate $1,500 to the Santa Maria Valley Historical Society this last meeting. You can visit the museum Tuesday through Saturday 11am to 4pm. The museum is located at 616 S Broadway, Santa Maria, CA 93454. https://bit.ly/SMVHistoricalMuseum
