Dear LAVMC Members, January’s dinner was prepared and served by Shirley Williams. Soup was precisely what we needed after the storms we’ve been having and that Cowboy stew really hit the spot. February’s dinner will be provided by Matthias. He is making an Argentinian Asado Tri-tip & sweetbreads with a chimichurri side dressing, and salad. If you would like to serve up some delicious grub for a future membership meeting, let Kylin (secretary@lavmc.org) know! We still need volunteers for the following months: March, July, September, and November. All food costs are reimbursed by the club! Speaking of delicious food, we will be selling tri-tip dinners on Superbowl Sunday in partnership with Whiskey Bent - and you know that is a tri-tip that will not disappoint! The dinner includes a whole tri-tip, salad, beans, and garlic bread for $60 and it will serve 4-6 people. The last day to order is Friday, February 10th! Get those orders in and save yourself the stress of preparing a meal for the Superbowl or if you don’t watch the Superbowl, use it as an excuse to get some of your favorite people together. All proceeds support getting Old Days back on Bell Street. Our general membership meeting is on Thursday, February 16th. The Bar opens at 5:30 and dinner is served at 6:15. The meeting will start at 7 pm sharp. Olga Reed is hosting a bingo to fundraise for their annual Science Camp on February 24th ($15/ bingo card), there will be a snack bar. We are not collecting money on their behalf so please be sure to make any checks out to Olga Reed directly. We will be hosting a blood drive at the Men’s Club on February 26th from 11 am to 4 pm. Please come donate if you can, there is an emergency blood shortage. They will be giving away $10 gift cards to Amazon as a thank-you! As a reminder, we are fundraising to get Old Days Back on Bell by hosting a series of Bingos and we are still accepting sponsors. Please let Shirley (rentals@lavmc.org) know if you are interested in donating towards this cause and sponsoring $250 or more. We will shout you out in our Old Days book! Our next Old Days planning meeting is February 20th at 6 pm. In order to have Old Days on Bell Street we will need to meet fundraising goals and have plenty of volunteers. We hope to see you there! If you are interested in getting involved with Old Days, let us know - we would love to have your fresh ideas! We want to bring back the small-town charm and make this Old Days great. We can't make it happen if it's a one-man show. If you have an idea or something you are passionate about bringing to Old Days, come to the next planning meeting! Lastly, Zach will not be serving you at the bar if you haven’t yet paid your membership dues. Payment is accepted via check, cash, or Venmo. Please be sure to state clearly in a check memo or on Venmo what the payment is regarding by notating the “2023 Membership Fee” and any other details we may need to know.
Community & Donation Updates As you all may remember, the Righetti High School Soccer team came to us with a donation request this past year. Our donation along with other funds they raised went to new uniforms, warm-up gear, and training equipment such as balls and nets. They promised to volunteer to earn our donation and we asked them to do their best and they certainly did! The team volunteered at our Christmas Dinner and did a great job helping with clean up after dinner. Those kids were on top of it! They are now varsity Ocean League champions and are off to compete in CIF. Let's wish them the best of luck!
Separately, last month on January 15th, the Men’s Club opened its doors to allow a fundraising BBQ to help three local families that had been affected by a car accident while on vacation in Mexico. Let’s all keep those families in our hearts as they go through this difficult time. This is a great reminder of the good that our club can do for the community. In good times and in bad, the LAVMC can offer support and hope to the community at large. Since last September we have donated $16,850 to various organizations within our community.
