April Newsletter

Dear LAVMC Members,

Hello! We have a big batch of new members we would like to welcome! This

will be their first monthly newsletter of many more to come! We are happy to

have you join us!

Let’s get right to it. Last month’s membership meeting and dinner was a

success! St. Patrick’s Day dinner feast was provided by Sandra, Linda, Mary,

and Maryanne. It was yummy. Thank you, ladies! Our April 21 dinner chefs will

be Rob Cooper and Raymond Williams. Bar opens at 5:30, dinner served at 6:15,

and meeting begins at 7 sharp. Hope to see you there.

A $1,000.00 donation request from Orcutt Youth Softball Association was

voted on and granted. The funds will assist with costs of rebuilding the batting

cages, ground leveling, new DG and turf. Thank you to Annabella and Miranda

Williams for providing a video presentation.

We have new windows in the club! They look absolutely amazing! The hot

water heater for the bar was also replaced. Slowly but surely the club is getting a

much needed face lift!

Just an FYI - The club is the official Red Cross Evacuation Center for Los

Alamos.

The Los Alamos History committee met on 3/10 and 3/24. The next meeting

is scheduled for 4/14 at 6:30. The first meetings focused on gathering history and

plaque design. If you have an interest in local history or have local history you

can share, then please attend. We could use your help! There are many good

ideas we would like to see come to fruition.

The first Membership Committee meeting was held at the club. Several

great ideas were suggested for how to increase our membership. Keep an eye

out for some new incentives and new friends joining us! Referring a friend could

win you a free drink card! The committee chairperson is Zach Perron if you have

any questions or would like to participate. The next scheduled meeting at the

club is 4/26 at 6pm.

The second Old Days Planning Committee meeting was held April 4. We

are still in need of a couple committee chairs. All of the events for the weekend

and preplanning needs have been divided up to ease the responsibilities. Each

committee chairperson will be assigned plenty of helpers. We are still in need of

a chairperson for the Saturday night dinner/dance and our permitting process.

The next meeting will be held May 9 at 6 p.m. at the club. If you can help in any

way, please join us in May.

Our Cook Your Own event was held at the club on March 25 th . It was a

huge success! We fed approximately 200 people. Stay tuned for our next Cook

Your Own date to be announced.

Our bar has new set hours from 5:30 to 11 for club events. You may also

now pay with a credit card when making purchases! Drink cards are available for

$60.00 but, you could win a free one if you refer a friend and they become a

member.

On March 29, our new County Supervisor, Bob Nelson, held a meet and

greet at the club. If you missed it, he will be scheduling another in the near future.

The conversation was opened for citizens to ask questions about their specific

concerns in Los Alamos. There were many and to touch on a few topics, our Post

Office, speed limits on Bell Street, internet speed and access, crime, and the

baseball field behind the Elementary school. Some good news from the meeting,

the baseball field will be getting a makeover soon!

May 6 is our next Bingo event at the club. Funds raised will be shared

between our Building Fund and the FCC Lompoc Employees Club. Presale

tickets are $20.00 and includes Bingo card and a Sammy box. At the door

purchase is $25.00. An additional sandwich is $10.00 and an additional Sammy

box is $15.00. We are in need of game sponsors. For more information, call

Shirley Williams or Kristy Williams.

Spring Fling is coming up fast and if it’s not on your calendar yet, write this

down! May 21 is the big day! There will be a live and silent auction. $100.00

reversal raffle tickets include one dinner. Dinner only tickets are $20.00. Stay

tuned in for more information! Contact Kim if you would like to donate or help.

Music in the Park is scheduled for Friday July 29. It’s a bring your own food,

drinks, snacks, chair, and blanket event. Come get to know your neighbors and

enjoy an evening listening to music. More information will follow as it becomes

available.
